New Work by Caitlin E. Demel

Below are two new watercolor paintings that I was able to complete this past week.  Watercolor is nice because you can work on it pretty much anywhere: it doesn't usually take up too much space, it isn't too messy, and the cleanup is easy - just soap and water. It is good to have this option while we are creating the larger studio space upstairs. Please contact me if you are ever interested in purchasing a  piece or would like to commission a painting. "Harvest Sunrise" Up For Auction to benefit SWIFT

Harvest Sunrise, a painting I completed last year, will be up for auction at the SWIFT 2013 Benefit this Saturday, April 6th. The event is supposed to be "A Night to Remember", seeing as the Shake Russell Trio and special guest Michael Hearne will be performing - popular musicians amongst these parts.

I am excited to be able to have something in the auction to benefit SWIFT (Schulenburg and Weimar in Focus Together).  The program itself is amazing, and is coordinated by some wonderful and talented individuals. I read on the SWIFT website (www.swift.cc) that the organization's concept is to show what a small rural community can do for itself. It is funded in part by an AmeriCorps Texas grant, and Schulenburg and Weimar are one of the few rural communities anywhere to obtain this type of AmeriCorps grant. From what I have witnessed in the few years I have lived in Schulenburg, SWIFT is extremely beneficial to our community and is able to give the many individuals involved a true sense of worth. That is so important, and I am happy to have the organization around.

Below is an image of the painting that will be up for auction - all the proceeds will benefit the mission of SWIFT. If you would like to view other items that will be up for auction by other local artists, businesses and individuals, you can check out the SWIFT Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/91234444326.

Stop at Pat's gallery on the way up to the fair - there are other artists displaying their works, including beautiful cement garden sculpture and more by sculptess Stephanie Shroyer.

Here is the gallery information with the normal hours, but Pat's will be OPEN DAILY DURING TEXAS ANTIQUES WEEK (until Sunday, April 7th, 2013).

"The Naked Truth" Book Release, by Allen Richey

Great news! Texas-based poet Allen Richey will have his brand spankin' new book for sale at today's Art, Music and Wine Festival. You can find it in my art booth (Caitlin E. Demel, Demel Fine Art) upstairs at Sengelmann Dance Hall (531 North Main St., Schulenburg, TX 78956) between 2 PM - 7:30 PM.  The book is titled The Naked Truth: The Road to Heaven Starts at the Cross. It is a collection of poetry that reflects upon Richey's personal life experiences, but, in a broader sense, the compilation explores the real-life circumstances that we all live through daily. Oh, and one other cool note worth mentioning - I had the privilege to illustrate the cover page and was also involved with the typing and editing process.  This was definitely a new experience, but well worth the time and effort.  The end product is beautiful inside and out. If you are interested in getting more information or would like to purchase the book, either visit us today at the fest, or you can simply visit www.demelfineart.wix.com/allenrichey. The site has a concise summary on the book, a sample of Richey's poetry and an area for purchase.

Also, if you'd like a signed copy, just holler! The contact info is below.

Hopefully today is a complete success for all involved with the Schulenburg Art, Music & Wine Festival. The Art Show runs 2 PM - 7:30 PM (Free admission), The Texas Wine Trail runs from 4-7:30, starting at the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce Building (631 North Main St., Schulenburg, TX 78956, $20/ticket, which includes admission to the Austin Lounge Lizards Concert) and then the Austin Lounge Lizards play upstairs at Sengelmann Dance Hall 8 PM - 11 PM ($10 admission if you decide not to do the wine trail and only go to the concert). We hope to see everyone there!

Cheers!

Artist Quote of the Week 2.8.12

Below is a humorous quote to those of us artists who love to procrastinate in some way or another. David Shrigley, a Glasgow-based artist once said, "'You can't just lie on the roof and smoke joints naked, because that's not going to get the work done, is it? You've got to be down here, fully clothed, sober, and wandering amongst paper, paint, and pens.'" (Fullerton, 36)
